Laurent Le Gall

Voyage To Utopia

A film made by my friend Laurent Le Gall a french film maker here in the States.
He' has the premier job; traveling and making films about the USA.
I met Laurent one evening in a camp ground in California.
I had traveled out to look at colleges with my son.
I seem to know a lot of musical types from my career so we gathered a tribe to play round our campfire.  A fiddler Chris Murphy and my son some old friends and family.
A dozen of  us...laughing and sharing joy; a common scene in my life.
I spied with little eye a neighboring camper; Laurent.
Signalling to him to come join us...come come.
He did and he said wow wow it s like you have your very own Burning Man!
Not having gone ever, wanting to but being a mom didn't really make that possible due to work and a busy lifestyle.
Music played and as the evening wided down our new friend ran off to his RV and returned with a dozen films for all who were present.
Merci My To My New French Family.
See You Soon

Here s a little You Tube Action on Laurents film.

DUANE FLATMO

A SUPER COOL GUY....Duane Flatmo

"Inspired by many things and it seems to always be changing. Found objects, things that had a life before and are now just tossed by the wayside.  My medium, much like clay is to a sculptor. Many people have stopped cooking with aluminum over recent years so I started collecting pie pans, muffin tins, cake molds and beautiful kitchenware along with other aluminum junk from many thrift stores and salvage yards. Rich in texture; the Tin Pan Dragon."

Duane Flatmo

I met Duane driving his Dragon in center camp at 2009 Burning Man.
He let me photograph him for My Eyes are Burning book project.
Spiting fire in the midst of a dirty dust storm...What's new...its Burning Man in all its Glory....dirt and more dirt.
I have always wanted to photograph the Kinetic Car Race in Humboldt California.
One day I will.

MY SON
What better time to take a feral teenager to Burning Man than prior to their 18th Birthday!
He flew into Reno while my assistant and friend Ashley and I drove from NM.
Emmett is a mellow beautiful soul.  He can pick out Jimi Hendrix with ease or funk it up  for a cool sonic vibe.
We worked by day as he just enjoyed each and every moment with friends and strangers alike.  I gave him the mom talks and I am proud to say he took it and ran free.
He was never gone for long always returning to our camp.
I was thank ful for less worry than more.
He is my son and moms can worry.

He's got good sense so for this I could relax and feel confident that he would be just fine.
Here's his feelings about BM
 Burning Man
"Inspires the mind as well as the soul to reach out of your box and into the unknown, bringing you closer to yourself and others.
Each day should be a celebration of life and love.
A world where people come together as one."

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

Phenomenal Woman

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

TEMPLE OF FLUX

Temple Burn by photograph by karen kuehn
TEMPLE of FLUX
Created by Flux Foundation
Designed by Rebecca Anders, Jess Hobbs, PK Kimelman
with Ben Anderson and Catie Magee

Each year some artist are awarded the task of building the temple.
The Temple is burned the night after the Man burns.
Its a very different experience.
Its HEAVY to say the least.
Maybe its light for some but just looking at this image I am weepy.
People from all over leaving letters, notes, photographs, wedding dresses, you name it.... parts of past present future relations to burn with in the walls of the Temple.
As friends sat in their mutant vehicles I roamed looking for images.
Over 56 thousand people sitting in a circle waiting for the fire marshals, the LLC of Burning Man to let her rip.  Pay respects, saying farewells we all share this moment.
LOSS is sacred in this space for many.
Its so quiet that the clicking of my camera  can be a bother for few.
I hope this image emotes and makes those of you feel how important the Temple Burn is for many.
The Temple of Flux will be in my book as a page of PRAYER.
Sit with it and feel all of your heart emotions.
Close your eyes, feel those whom have past, beings human and furry, use your senses.
So very quiet and moving one's essence deeper in thought.
Mindful of those we love and have loved.
A great passage of time, for me it marks a pinnacle for faith in something more than less.
Love shared at the event is forever treasured by those whom embraced it.
No one can remove the love of Spirits blended.
Embraced with gratitude.

GOD SPEED
