Puddle of Mudd

Goofing around with Christian at John Kurzweg's Studio 2012

Hook Ups
My life is so in the moment, the phone rings and you get a cool job.
A friend gives a shout out, lets go to this concert I know the band!
Hey I have a free ticket to Figi...one never knows where one will be in less than 24hours notice in my world.
Last night NM Music Patron Jose Ponce sent me an email asking me if I would join him and music producer John Kurzweg
Puddle of Mudd at the Hard Rock.
Sure, get me access to photograph the act!
Great show and thankfully the band was really terrific as was the audience.
PUDDLE of MUDD
Wes Scantlin
A few pics for the show at the Hard Rock
Shooting shows is sort of like a workout...always your penned to an area...how do you make it better or more interesting?
My goal is always to try not to repeat the same story.
Shannon Boone drums
Christian Stone and Wes Scantlin
Wes and his action packed audience at the Hard Rock

Christian Stone lead guitar back up vocals
Doug Ardito on bass and vocals
What a good guy he played to my camera many times over.

Wes connects with a young fan he see s singin a song, pulls him on stage.
Wes loves the crowd and they love him all ages.

Current line up for Puddle of Mudd beat back stage....
Doug
Shannon and Christian chillin
A little sponsorship folks...Monster!

She Hates Me(one of my favorite performed pieces)
Super fun song and I think a lot of folks really could relate.
They rocked the house and will work with my pal John for a few days on a couple new tunes.
Performance photos are tough, you do the best you can in each situation.
It isn't rocket science but always cool when the band is very appreciative.

Native American Myth

To me nothing is black or white anymore its all the tones in between and symbolism...
Let us feed the good fire in all of our lives.
In today's Tiny Buddha this was posted.
I am re posting as a reminder to not dwell in a the shadow of your mind contracted
but to expand into the light of life and be thankful.

 TINY BUDDHA
by Lori Deschene

A tribal elder tells his grandson that inside each of us, there is a black dog and a white dog doing battle.
The black dog possesses qualities typically understood as negative, including envy, greed, sorrow, anger, resentment, and arrogance. The white dog possesses qualities understood as positive, including love, joy, kindness, empathy, compassion, humility, and peace.
The grandson asks, “Which dog will win the fight?” And the elder responds, “Whichever one we feed.”

What an empowering call to action. We can reap tremendous benefits from asking ourselves: What am I nurturing in myself today?
We can choose to dwell on everything we think is wrong, complain about it to everyone who’ll listen, focus on everything we think we lack, and generally go through our days feeding negativity.
Or we can choose to engage with the world in ways that feel right, talk about the things that excite us, focus on everything that makes us feel fortunate, and generally go through our days feeding positivity.
Of course, there is a third, likely more realistic option: We can do our best to recognize when we’re doing the former, and then make the conscious choose to do the latter.
We may never completely eliminate negative thoughts, but we can learn to catch them and dispute them with increasing regularity.
We may not always feel loving and kind, but we can choose to meditate, practice yoga, or do whatever helps us create inner calm, so as to cultivate those feelings more often.
We may never feel permanently peaceful, but we can choose to question our envy, resentment, and discontent to develop self-awareness and act on what we learn.
It also serves us to recognize that we all come from different places, and despite our similarities, we each have our own unique blend of challenges. Contrary to the myth, very little is black and white.
This means it’s our job to recognize how we’re out of balance, without judging why it’s so or comparing ourselves to other people, so we can focus on doing our best to nurture good thoughts and feelings.
We don’t live in a purely positive world, and we can’t control everything that happens to us—but we can make the world a better place by first striving to know and nourish ourselves.

Maya Angelou Inspires Me

President Obama kisses poet and author Maya Angelou
after giving her the 2010 Medal of Freedom
the White House February 15, 2011 in Washington, DC.

Maya Angelou Quotes

"When people show you who they are, believe them the first time. "
" People will forget what you said
People will forget what you did
but people will never forget how you made them feel"

"I have found that among its other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver."

"Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at it destination full of hope."

"Most plain girls are virtuous because of the scarcity of opportunity to be otherwise."
"My great hope is to laugh as much as I cry; to get my work done and try to love somebody and have the courage to accept the love in return."

"Nothing will work unless you do.
"
"The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned."

"There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you."
"Words mean more than what is set down on paper. It takes the human voice to infuse them with deeper meaning."
While photographing Oprah many years ago for the New York Times, Maya Angelou was the guest on this particular show.
She recited Phenomenal Woman.
My all time favorite poem.

Phenomenal Woman

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies.
I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size
But when I start to tell them,
They think I'm telling lies.
I say,
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips,
The stride of my step,
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please,
And to a man,
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees.
Then they swarm around me,
A hive of honey bees.
I say,
It's the fire in my eyes,
And the flash of my teeth,
The swing in my waist,
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me.
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say,
It's in the arch of my back,
The sun of my smile,
The ride of my breasts,
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman

Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed.
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud.
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say,
It's in the click of my heels,
The bend of my hair,
the palm of my hand,
The need of my care,
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally.
Phenomenal woman,
That's me.

HaPpY Endings

The Pound Story Continued . . .
Today I took my sons girlfriend with me to help do photographs of the animals on death row.
I say this seriously as this is again a KILL SHELTER.
The gang that works there has done an amazing job of getting rescues and foster homes involved.  Today while we were there several of the dogs we worked with yesterday got adopted.  This is a HUGE win and time well spent to say the least.
Here s a few more stories that will show you that any effort you do will make a difference.
Patty gets this pup adopted by residents in Cochiti NM
 Cats Meow
This dog got rescued by German Shorthair Pointer Rescue
One of six abandoned dogs.

I can't believe this boy is still alive
When you hear my nails cloppin on the floor, please trim them for me.
Pregnant momma dropped off by her owners.

If my owners would of spaded me I might still be living with them,
I guess they don't want puppies.
I need home and a spade.
Please come and get me and don't leave me.

Second Chance out of Corrales are fostering four dogs.
These two are part of her picks.

Volunteer

Have Camera Save a Little Life

Shooting photographs for the local Animal Shelter is a huge help.
I've encouraged my students over the years to take on projects to make a difference.
Do a series, make it personal and make it count.
The shelter staff are so busy logging in strays, unwanted elderly pets, handling hoarding cases, abandonment and much more.
Today a beautiful dog showed up with a broken jaw, go figure who kicked it's sweet face in?
Puppies found nursing on a their dead momma dog were brought in by a ranchers wife.
Wandering stays are shot and killed.  A cowhand just "did his job".
The horror stories are endless and heart breaking.
All these babies need some love, a walk, a toy tossed.
Don't you like attention?
Do you pay attention to your pets?
Quality lifestyles doesn't mean neglect.
It can be lonely living with a human that just puts the food down and walks away.
Its very common sad to say!
Teeth cleaned and check ups annually are part of taking on that responsibility's.
We all need to be noticed and cared for ...
Karma says give a little love today.
Bring in blankets and toys, food...see what your shelter needs.
If you have a camera go and make really sweet deep images of there faces, really try to get a little light in their eyes.
It s more than a snap shot..spend a little time and see if you can show their sparkle.
Our shelter is a KILL SHELTER.
The community of Valencia County is working on elevating and educating.
Laws in the State of NM are more for humans than animals and livestock.
Changes are occurring but ever so slowly.
Here's some of the faces that are up for adoption this week.
Volunteer a few hours a week and save a life.

Mixed pups found nursing on their shot momma.
